The Affairs of the Heart - the longings of life

Tom Price gives a talk and leads a discussion on happiness, linked to clips from the film Thirteen Conversations About One Thing. The talk is followed by a question and answer session in which Tom recounts the story of “One Mug”. This story poses the question “Would you choose One Mug’s life … a life of happiness but complete deception?”

Quotation from C.S. Lewis' The Pilgrim's Regress:

"What does not satisfy when we find it was not the thing we were desiring."

Quotation from Ernest Becker's The Denial of Death:

“Our need for worth is so powerful that whatever we base our identity and value on we essentially 'deify.' We will look to it with all the passion and intensity of worship and devotion, even if we think of ourselves as highly irreligious.”
