God: new evidence
How recent scientific discoveries point to the reality of the Creator
Part 1
"The question of whether there exists a supernatural creator, a God, is one of the most important questions we have to answer. I think it is a scientific question." Richard Dawkins
"The laws of science, as we know them at present, contain many fundamental numbers… the values of these numbers seem to have been very finely adjusted to make possible the development of life." Professor Stephen Hawking
"The impression of design is overwhelming." Professor Paul Davies
"Although I was once sharply critical of the argument to design, I have since to come to see that, when correctly formulated, this argument constitutes a persuasive case for the existence of God." Professor Anthony Flew
Richard Dawkins claims that God is a delusion and that religious faith is evil. But what if the scientific evidence itself is telling a different story? Over the past fifty years scientists have uncovered a series of amazing facts which show that the creation is an extremely unlikely place, fine-tuned in specific ways that make human life possible. It shows all the signs that it has been purposefully designed as a place for us to live. ‘God: new evidence’ is a series of videos about these remarkable discoveries that point us towards the Creator.
The main contributors to the videos are: John Polkinghorne, David Wilkinson, Rodney Holder, Peter Williams and Graham Swinerd. Further information on the contributors.
A Very Unlikely Place
A series of remarkable scientific discoveries show that the universe we live in is a very unlikely place, precisely adjusted to make our lives possible. The first of six videos introduces the background to the contributors and starts to explore how cosmic fine-tuning points towards the reality of a creator God.
Life on a Razor's Edge
The second of a series of six videos exploring how recent scientific discoveries point to the reality of the Creator. This video considers some of the ways in which the universe is a very unlikely place, with specific examples of this being given. The values of some basic physical constants have been very precisely adjusted to make our lives possible. Tiny changes in these values would mean we could not be here at all. Why are things so finely balanced to make possible life on a razor's edge?
Just Lucky?
The third in a series of six videos explores whether the cosmic fine-tuning
requires further explanation. Is it enough to say that we are just lucky? Does cosmic fine-tuning point towards
a creator God? Do we require an explanation that goes beyond mere coincidence?
The videos are available on a DVD for use by churches, Christian Unions and other groups. They can also be accessed from Youtube and at www.focus.org.uk. This website also contains further information, videos and other
