The bethinking email is packed with handy information highlighting new articles, film, book and music reviews, and is filled with practical examples of how you can make good use of the excellent and insightful material on bethinking.org to help you grow as a thinking Christian.

bethinkers combine a good understanding of the issues with a character that shows that the Biblical truths that the bethinker describes are authentic and life changing.

bethinkers are special and unique: why?

This is what a bethinker looks like…

Attractive : bethinkers will act with grace, kindness, and good manners and will not dishonour Christ in their conduct.

Dependent : bethinkers know that effectiveness requires joining their best efforts with God’s power.

Cross and resurrection centred : bethinkers know from their own lives that the crucifixion and resurrection of the historical person of Jesus of Nazareth is the final destination of all apologetics. They don’t strip the gospel of depth for the sake of simplicity, but allow it to burn brilliantly in their hearts and minds. It is their foundation both personally and intellectually.

Willing : a bethinker is awake and alert for chances to represent Christ and will not back away from a challenge or an opportunity. bethinkers give lots of time to people asking questions.

Patient and thoughtful : a bethinker isn’t into shouting matches or personal attacks. bethinkers listen and ask great questions. They are aware of the person behind the question, as well as the question behind the question.

Gentle : bethinkers stand in unruffled gentleness as they seek to respectfully correct those in opposition, as well as those closer to home who are not so keen on apologetics or bethinkers.

Reasonable : bethinkers have informed convictions (not just feelings), give great reasons, ask questions, actively seek answers, and will not be stumped by the same challenge twice.

Shrewd : bethinkers are flexible. They don’t do one-size-fits-all conversations or evangelism. They see adapting to each unique person and situation as an expression of loving the person with the question. They manoeuvre with wisdom to challenge bad thinking, presenting the truth in an understandable, persuasive and compelling way.

Clear : bethinkers are careful with language. They don’t use theological or philosophical words and jargon where they don’t need to. And they don’t make people feel small when they say that they don’t understand.

Fair and Honest : bethinkers are careful with the facts and will not misrepresent their opponent, overstate their own case, or understate the demands of the gospel.

Humble : bethinkers know that our understanding of some truths is fallible, and will not press a point beyond what the evidence allows.
